G.Green going TCU Purple
While they were born and raised in
Houston, it's another part of the state
that could be the home for the Green
brothers the next few years. While older
brother Gerald tries to latch on with
the Dallas Mavericks, Garlon Green is
headed north up I-45 as well. The
high-rising 6-foot-5, 190-pound wing
from Fort Bend Hightower High School
will be lacing up his sneakers just down
the road on the other corner of the DFW
triangle after making his college
decision on Tuesday.
"I just verbally committed to TCU
today," Green said. "I thought it was
the best fit for me. I like the coaches
and like the whole atmosphere there."
Green made an official visit to TCU this
past weekend, two weekends after
visiting UTEP. While in Fort Worth he
soaked in all the sights and felt
comfortable with his surroundings. "The
whole campus impressed me," Green said.
"The players, the coaches, and all the
people around there all impressed me. I
think it's a good program and I think
they'll be doing good."
Green should fit right in on the wing
for TCU and he's excited about getting
up and down the court with the Horned
Frogs. "I'll try to bring as much as I
can," Green said. "I'll be working hard
every day on all parts of my game."
Green credits mentor Ricky Nelson of the
Houston Elite AAU program for much of
his success - and his recruitment.
Nelson finds the fit for Green at TCU a
perfect one.
"TCU is a great choice for him," Nelson
said. "He'll be near his family with
Gerald on the Mavericks and his sister
also in Dallas, and they did a really,
really good job of recruiting him and
showing him how much he will mean to
their program. Garlon's a great player
who works very hard and he'll be in the
gym working on trying to get a complete
basketball game."
In addition to UTEP, Green also held
offers from Wichita State and Iowa State
before making his commitment to TCU. He
ranks as the number 19 senior in the
TexasHoops.com Class of 2009 rankings
