The pool of Division I talent at Fort Bend Marshall High
School is as deep as it gets in the state of Texas. Yet
another Buffalo standout will be heading to college
basketball's highest level as
Jonathan Frazier has made a decision. The
6-foot, 170-pound combo guard had the chance to take his
talents outside the Lone Star state, but instead will
continue his hoops career in his backyard.
"I'm going to TSU (Texas Southern)," Frazier said. "I
wasn't liking the offfers I was getting from the
out-of-state schools, and I still wanted my mom to come
and see my games. So I picked TSU."
Frazier couldn't even recall the specific schools
recruiting him from outside of Texas, only remembering
that they were from states such as Louisiana and
Virginia. But his choice of TSU wasn't just by default.
He likes what the program and the school itself has to
offer him. "I really like the way they play," Frazier
said. "They're up-and-down and it's fast-break ball.
I'll also be playing for a good coach. And their
criminal justice program is pretty good, that's what I
want to major in."
A third team All-Region 20-5A selection, Frazier should
find playing time at both guard spots for TSU head coach
Ronnie Courtney. He feels confident he can step right in
and contribute. "I really thought this year I passed the
ball better instead of shooting all the time," Frazier
said. "I thought I helped out my teammates. I still want
to improve my jumpshot."
Texas Hoops Analysis: Jonathan is an athletic
lefty who can create off the dribble and break down the
defense, is a good ball handler and passer, sees the
floor well, has a good understanding of the game and can
hit the open perimeter jumper
